About B-Field Honey

Our History

Our Products

Our Products

We are a small, local beekeeping family in Mendon NY. We started several years ago with a colony of bees in our backyard. Our hobby has grown, expanding to colonies kept in a few locations in the local area.

Our Products

We sell 100% pure, raw honey. The honey is unfiltered and unpasteurized, collected directly from our colonies, and bottled by us. We also sell nucleus colonies of bees for those interested in keeping their own bees.

Our Bees

Our Products

Our Bees

Our bees live year-round in upstate NY, in the towns of Mendon and Bloomfield. They are hardy survivor stock, selected for health, gentle behavior, and honey production. They make great raw honey. We also frequently collect feral bee colonies.

Where to Buy Our Honey

In Local Stores and Markets

Our honey is available in Honeoye Falls MarketPlace, Mendon Meadows Marketplace, and Book Culture in Pittsford NY. We also participate in local markets when available, such as the Pittsford Farmers' Market.  Currently Summer, Autumn, and Autumn Dark flavors are available.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Please use the contact form below, if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The only things in our honey are what the bees, our bees, bring in.  Our honey is 100% pure, raw, and unfiltered, including only what they find from the countryside south of Rochester NY.

Our honey is not mixed with anything, nor does it include honey from other apiaries. You do not need to worry about adulterants, "fake honey", corn syrup, or anything else.

Yes!  We are very happy to help introduce people to beekeeping.  We will offer a small number of nucleus colonies for sale each year, along with mentoring of new beekeepers.  Please contact us if you would like to learn more.

Raw honey is not heated or filtered, which means it retains all of its natural enzymes, some pollen, and nutrients. Processed honey is heated and filtered, which can remove some of the beneficial properties and alter the flavor of the honey.

We keep honeybees (Apis mellifera) that are adapted to upstate NY.  These bees are breed to be healthy, gentle, robust for our winters, and produce excess honey for harvest.

If you do have honeybees moving in, we can try to relocate them into one of our apiaries.  We can do removals from safe heights and when the bees are easy to reach.

But for complicated removals, we will refer you to others in the area. Likewise, we're not of much help for wasps, hornets, and other bees.

Prior to winter we will make sure the colonies have plenty of food stores, we wrap the hives to provide added insulation, place mouse guards over the entrances, and add some material to absorb excess moisture.   At that point the bees will basically keep inside the hives all winter.  On nice days they may do a little house keeping, carrying out things from the hive.  When it is coldest, they will cluster in a ball in the center of the hive.

Over the course of the last 4 years, our annual colony loss rate is about 3% or less. The average annual colony loss rate is around 30-50% in NYS. We promote genetics of healthy colonies, we do medicate as directed by organizations such as Cornell’s Dyce Labs, and we do not move established colonies for short-term reasons.
